I apologize for the meme I am about to subject you to, but... I like books, okay. And I like talking about books. So here goes.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read only 6 and make them read.

12:53 am - That lyrics meme
Do I have enough people on my flist to make something like this work? Probably not. OH WELL, I am procrastinating on a paper which is due Friday, so I'm doing it anyway. I'll probably end up cross-posting this to Last.fm later.

Guess the songs from the one or two lines of lyrics, guys! (Usually they're the first line/two lines, except when the first line/two lines had the title of the song in them. Then they're usually the two lines. Also, I skipped over nearly all of the non-English music that came up, because I didn't think people would get those, and/or I didn't know the lyrics myself.)

plz to not be laughing at my occasionally awful taste in music, guys.

Name that tune! )

I'm trying to avoid doing my homework (yes, at 1 AM), so here, have a meme... quiz... thing I stole from [info]tenshi_ryuu:

My dream home )

It's so beautiful. Well, actually I don't go in much for high fantasy with elves and things anymore, but it's still pretty awesome.

12:39 am - OTAKON REPORT DAY 2: Insert Cheesy Subtitle Here!
Today, I:

- Overslept by about half an hour; got to the con late. Oops.

- Headed straight for the LARP room and hung out there all morning. Most of this time was spent on a kaijuu robot fighting tournament thing, which sounds really cool but was actually boring as all hell thanks to the game mechanics.

- Went to the Seki Tomokazu panel. 99% of the questions seemed to be about Weiss Kreuz, which apparently people love. Not in a "yes it's godawful but I love it anyhow (and besides, it's lolarious)" kind of way, I mean, more in an "OMG IT IS THE BEST SHOW EVAR!!!11!!111" kind of way. Seki's impression of Noto Mamiko was A++ though. And it's kind of cute that when he was a kid he used to go around yelling "Getter Beam!"

- Found the CFUD people. We hung out in a corner for a bit, then wandered around Artists' Alley. I bought a bumper sticker that said "My Other Ride Is Your Mom" (which I ended up giving to [info]rachia) and a postcard with Etna and the Prinnies from Disgaea on it. There were many other things that were pretty and still others that were amusing (mostly on purpose, even!) but I kept myself from buying too much, thankfully.

- Went back to the LARP to build robots for people. Was entrusted with starting up the Neo-Baltimore Kagekidan ("Kagekidan" being what the Sakura Taisen fighting troupe things are called -- Teikoku Kagekidan, Paris Kagekidan, New York Kagekidan...), which now consists of me, Suzumiya Haruhi, Lina Inverse, and Sailor Mars. (Ben -- the Sakura Taisen-loving GM -- never actually said I could only recruit teenaged girls, but that is the Sakura Taisen Way, so that's how I did it.) I got to design the weapons systems for their mechs, which was fun. Also joined Suzumiya Haruhi's group of people doing the Hare Hare Yukai dance for the talent show... thing. We won, actually, but somehow I never got any of the prize money. Ah, well. Also helped with some sort of device that's supposed to help Save The City from the typhoon that's coming (I'm, uh, not too clear on the details).

Also, somewhere along the line, I realized that I now view Kohran as One Of My Characters. I've even developed mental pings for her. I keep forgetting that I don't play her anywhere but in the LARP (also, I initially typo'd forgetting as frogetting, upon which the Firefox spellchecker suggested that I might mean "fro getting"... this amuses me, but possibly only because I'm so tired that I've gone past tired and come out the other side). Which... pretty much means that I have to app her somewhere. And by somewhere I pretty much mean CFUD, because CFUD tends to eat most other RPs I join. The problem being that I hate playercest and have vowed to never, ever app two characters from the same canon. (Though some traitorous part of my mind is going, "Well, they wouldn't have to interact that much, and you could assume that a lot of things happened offscreen..."). Plus, then I feel like I'm... sort of monopolizing the canon. I mean, there are, what, 17+ other Kagekidan girls to app, total, but still... I don't know, what if someone else wanted to app Kohran? I'd rather have my only canonmate be played by someone other than myself, if at all possible... but I don't know that anyone's ever going to app SakuTai anyway. I AM CONFLICTED. Oh well. (Also, now if I ever do app Kohran, [info]rachia and [info]caffeinic will totally know it's me. Uh, oops?)

- ANYWAY, finally we had to leave the con and drive home. At this point I was (still am, actually) so far past exhausted that I was (am) actually manic. It's probably not healthy, but damned if it's not fun. At one point during the drive, I meant to say "what exit are we looking for?" and it came out "what robot are we looking for?" ... Don't ask, I don't know either. [info]tenshi_ryuu and I got to talking about how much we missed non-fandom RPing, and so I told her about my pet original RP, which died a few years ago but which I'd start over again in a heartbeat if I could get enough interest. Cut for lengthy babbling about said RP. )

So that made me stop going "ROBOTS ROBOTS ROBOTS ROBOTS :DDDDD" -- instead I'm going "DRAGONS ROBOTS DRAGONS ROBOTS... ROBODRAGONS? :DDDDD"

Uh, anyway, back to Otakon stuff... I'm kind of depressed that the con ends tomorrow. I mean, I know, there's always next year, but... the giant gathering of geeks was so amazing, and running around in a costume was so much fun. Real life seems that much more... well, boring now. And I'm going to miss RPing Kohran, but THAT MAY NOT BE A PROBLEM FOR MUCH LONGER oh god someone disable me please just sit on me or take my computer away or... force me to join island_rp instead or something like that.

... uh, anyway, I'm going to go attempt sleep now. Hopefully I won't critical-fail.

ETA: Shut up, I can too close my HTML tags properly. See?

12:05 pm - Why yes, I /would/ jump off a cliff if everyone else was doing it.
And I probably won't even watch the movie, since movies based on books I've read tend to fill me with rage. But here, have some shiny quiz results!

I'm making my journal friends-only, because... well, just because. You can ask to be added, but there is no guarantee that I'll actually do it unless I know you from somewhere else.

09:56 pm - Fun with Online Translators
Well, I just spent more time than I'd like to contemplate translating some of my short stories into Japanese and then back into English. It is fun. Sometimes it comes out gibberish; sometimes it comes out sounding more meaningful and pretty than the line actually was. For instance, a line that originally had to do with someone being "oblivious to his impending doom" when he disagreed with a particularly bitchy female character came out "[He] did not stop the destiny in the air; it continued." Another line, "All the members glared at one another", became "Everyone shone, being mutual, dazzlingly." Which doesn't make a lot of sense, but sounds much more positive and nice. And then there are things like "I want a secretary by the time I count to ten!" which came out as "Until I count to ten there must be a secretary in me!", which just sounds wrong, but is nevertheless amusing. Whee. My favorite thing, however, is that "yeah" translates as "it can obtain". Which really has nothing to do with anything. But from now on, instead of saying "yeah", I think I'll say "it can obtain", and confuse the hell out of everyone. Not that I don't already. ^_^
Okay, done with my strange randomness. Fun.
